just one question

If you've been following my blog for any period of time (thank you!), you know that I love taking online classes. You would also be aware that the only class I have ever finished was Stories in Hand by Jessica Sprague in late 2008 (I think?) I most love to take classes from Shimelle Laine, and have discovered some pretty amazing blogs in the process.

A new class started yesterday - Beyond Blogging for Scrapbookers. I'm excited for this class, because I've been trying to figure out how to take my blog to the "next level", and what that really means for me.

So today, I have a burning question. Something I've wanted to try for a long time, but haven't been brave enough to do. Something that I'm inspired to try when I see posts like this and this and this. And I'm wondering if you do it?

Do you art journal?

  2. Just popping in from Shimelle's class. I don't art journal on a regular basis, but I guess I've had a go at it once or twice! Regular scrapbooking always wins with me!

  3. No I don't, but I really admire those who do! I wish I had more of an artistic streak in me, but I lost it along with the maths gene many years ago!

  4. Yes I do and art journaling and altered art have really taken over from scrapbooking

  5. No, although I love seeing the talent of others!

  6. Although I've been tempted many times, I don't want to divvy up my craft time to something other than scrapbooking. It does look like fun.

  11. I'm with Jo - I don't really get it either... although I did start out with intentions of having a journal that I could draw in or stick photos at one point - I guess that;s kind of similar..? But I never got into it, and my craft time is already divided (although mostly dedicated to scrapping)... I think I'll just be sticking with good old scrapping mostly!

  14. Not really, but I have a notebook prepared for one - the cover and first page were done based on a JS class. I added one page with things I clipped out of a magazine, so maybe that counts that I've done one "original" page.

  15. Like many of the others its not something I have tried but would like to do so. Like many things I just need to take the plunge!

  16. I did six months of digital art journaling last year, then fell out of it and haven't made time to get back. I've just started learning mixed media and hope to apply that to paper art journaling. I'm excited about the possibilities!

  17. I do not. Mostly because despite trying I am just not artsy in that way. I think I'm a pretty good scrapper and photographer but I can not draw and my painting is so stiff....Maybe when I retire...! But I think if you are artistically inclined you could try it!

  18. I do! I LOVE it. At first it was REALLY hard to convince myself that it was okay to be messy and cover things up with paint. I love using just random things around the house that may have otherwise been thrown away, to paint over or stick down and create with.

  19. I have, but it has been awhile. I have been wanting to get back to it, but haven't carved out the time to do it. I'm setting aside some time Saturday morning to work on a project similar to an art journal though... so we'll see.

I am excited to read more of your blog... seems like you have a lot going on. :D

  20. sadly, I am not brave enough to art journal. Art was my worst subject. I had a teacher that did not encourage me and I gave up. I am so happy I found scrapbooking - it is the perfect creative outlet for me.

  22. I'm so honored to be included with karenika and the fabulous Julie Balzer! :) For me, art journaling is the place where I am free to experiment and it's ok to make ugly pages. ;) I can let loose. I highly recommend Wreck This Journal [Paperback] by Keri Smith (Author) as a beginning point! xoxo
