white bread is my weakness

As we head full speed towards the end of another year (it's February, people, the end of the year will be here before you know it!) I ponder my wellness goals for the year. Because it has to be a wellness approach, not a "lose weight" or "get fit" approach, I've tried and failed at all of those things.

As I looked at this photo of Toni and I from the event in Melbourne last month, I realised that I had to stop deluding myself, and take action.

Yep, I know I've had four babies. And I'm still breastfeeding. I'm not one of those lucky mums who loses weight while breastfeeding, either. And I finally had to admit defeat when shopping for those jeans, and go up a size. (Man, what a difference the right size clothes makes!)

But, I never wanted to reach that point. Where I needed to go up a size in my clothing. I've stayed the same size through 3 babies (something I'm told doesn't happen often) The downside is that I weigh as much now as I did when I was nine months pregnant with Sophie.

So, I've started walking. Because I work better with small steps, rather than overwhelming big goals. I know, I've been there before.

And I haven't cut out the white bread, just reduced my intake. Not easy to do when PMS strikes.

  1. Well I fail because I've gone up 1-2 sizes (depending which brand of clothes it is) around my hips after one baby.

  2. It's hard to resist white bread - the specialty kind for me. Iove your sensible a wellness approach, not a "lose weight" or "get fit" approach.
I'm doing it too -after gaining way too much weight over the holidays.

  3. Chocolate is my downfall, BUT I love it! Working on reducing my intake as life without it is not on! xx N

  4. Every step counts! I've just completed a month following the Paleo lifestyle, which was pretty hardcore, but I feel amazing after it. It's certainly not for everyone though! I do really miss bread...

  5. I think small steps, changes and goals is definitely the way to go. This week I am made a commitment to stop drinking Coke again (because it had crept back in over Summer). 3 days down and I'm already less bloated. Goodluck with it all.

  6. Good on you, small steps is better than no steps. And I know how hard it can be to wrap your head around the fact that you have to go up a size but it is so much more comfortable.

  7. White bread is so hard to give up!! Do you have Sara Lee's bread in Australia? The smooth & soft wheat bread from Sara Lee is the closest wheat bread I've found to texture and taste in white bread.

  9. I've noticed I've gone up a size in the last twelve months as well, and it's not making me feel great. I like the idea of a wellness approach though. And not cutting things out, but instead cutting back. Otherwise, for me, it's a recipe for failure.
