Is there a song that always makes you get up on the dance floor and have a wobble? I've been known to get up at the school disco, seven months pregnant, and show the kids how to do this one!




How about a theme each week? Next week's theme will be sing it loud!

Ghostbusters was on tv last night. And my kids are watching the DVD again this morning. It's one of those movies that to my 39-year-old-brain looks so tacky, but to my 10-year-old-brain was scary! But the music was so iconic of the times! Oh, the memories of 1984!

sunday sessions | settling the {first} babe

When Chloe was a baby, we lived with her grandmother for a while. Being a first-time mum, living with people I had never met until we moved in with them, I tried hard to keep her quiet in a "seen but not heard" manner, like I'd been taught. But sometimes I had to give in, and let her granma help. Priscilla Queen of the Desert was a big hit at the time, and we all loved the soundtrack, but Chloe especially loved this song from Charlene.

Sunday sessions | return to innocence

I'm away from home at the moment, something that has only happened twice (other than birth) in the last seven years. The total absence of sound in my room has my ears ringing. In order to relax and sleep, I turn to my playlists. The album I choose is one that was played often in those tumultuous teen years, blocking out the noise of the world and centering me.

sunday sesions | currently listening to

I love an eclectic playlist when I get the chance to crank up some music - you'll often find 80s favourites mixed in with current top 20s. It makes for fun listening, and exposes my kids to all sorts of songs.

At Christmas time I overheard a conversation between my mum and brother about Mumford & Sons. The gist of the conversation was that neither of them likes their music! I was devastated! Little Lion Man is much played here, as is I will Wait.



So we agreed to disagree, and I turned the music down a little bit when this song came on.

sunday sessions | the thirties

As the parent of an almost-fifteen-year-old, much of my twenties and all of my thirties have been wrapped up in children. And children don't often allow for mum to have an identity, let alone a musical identity - I've spent many an hour listening to Disney movies over and over, High School Musical ad nauseum and Hi5 on repeat (I have forever been grateful that my kids have never enjoyed The Wiggles!)


Stand out music from these years would have to be The Carpenters "We've only just begun" - this was the song I walked down the aisle to! And spent many an hour listening to it before and after the big day!

There will be no Sunday Sessions link up on Easter Sunday, but it will be back bright and early the first Sunday in April.

Sorry, I didn't get around to all linkers last week, I'll be visiting them all this week, though.

sunday sessions | the twenties

Music from my twenties seems to be all about anything - being able to sing the words to a song has always been my priority for listening (but the kids don't necessarily agree these days!) But this song from Savage Garden has been played on the radio a lot recently, and I remember it well from the days of my early twenties.

sunday sessions | a trip into childhood

I thought it might be fun to take a trip down memory lane this week, with approaching age and all that maybe I can pretend to be young again?

I can't remember much music before Uptown Girl from Billy Joel and the Thriller album from Michael Jackson. (I'm sure the music was there, I just don't have any memory of it) Mum would play those two albums when we drove to the nearest "big town" from home (and we'd get McDonalds on the way home!)




George Michael's Faith was the next significant song in my life - we were selling our house, and dad had set me the task of recording the radio advert of the sale from morning radio, and this song came on right before the advert. I kept the recording for years after we moved.
