Hello Monday

hello change It's no secret that I am crippled by self-doubt and fear. And that the fear and self-doubt has held me back from so many opportunities, both in life and blog space. And while I've allowed myself to wallow, I've also come to realise that I need to get over it and move on. But more than the need to get over it, I've realised that I am the only one who can make myself get over it. And that can be a hard truth to swallow, because I have a somewhat fatalist attitude to things going wrong, believing that life sucks instead of it's a bad day. [Writing this is in fact the starting point - instead of continuing to scroll Facebook because Steve has gone for a nap so my plan to record videos is stuffed up, I'm taking the opportunity to write.]

hello video A couple of weeks ago I joined up with a free 10 day video challenge. I enjoyed it so much that I signed up with the membership program, because, for an introvert, I love video. Like, really insanely think videos can do amazing things [did anybody else finish the TDK song in their heads as they read that line? No, just me?] for both this space, and for me. So this week, I'm taking some time to get back into the swing of writing, and juggling, and planning to create more videos.

hello block themes I've mentioned a few times that I've tried to create an ideal week plan to keep myself on track with doing all the stuff. But I could never make it work, until I had a brain explosion over the weekend. And I got up this morning, and it actually worked (although it did get derailed with Steve coming home early from work.) I realised that the reason it wasn't working for me was because I was trying to write down all the details of every minute of every hour. But having a shift worker and 4 kids in the house means that I really need to be flexible in my availability to them (or at least my awareness that they're home) The solution? Themes for each block of time. For example, writing from 9am-11am, project work from 12pm-2pm, dinner prep from 4pm-6pm, etc. You get the idea. And the truth is, it's probably closer to the way I work anyway, it's just that without writing it down I often feel as if I never get anything done. Now, I can see how successful my days really are.

hello baking Like housework, an empty cupboard seems to be a never ending story around here. And fussy kids who want chicken sandwiches one day, and hate chicken the next, means that I need to move past the blueberry muffin obsession that I have, and find something that they love again.

hello house plans The week before last we celebrated 10 years of owning our house by pulling up the carpets in our upstairs hallway to release the polished timber floors. We knew they were there, being one of the first things we checked when we originally bought the house. But we made the decision to leave the carpets down while we had babies and crawlers around. Pulling the carpets up sent us into a spiral of planning huge house changes [brand new from scratch kitchen in a whole new room!] that, while it won't happen quickly, or even this year, has breathed new life into both the family and the house, and will set us up for a house that can grow as the family grows older.

hello Monday, a new start every week

  1. TDK does amazing things to your system..... (sound system, that is!!!) I remember it! Sounds like you're on the right track of taking the first step and doing something even though you were tempted by the old devil Facebook. Change is hard, especially when we have to initiate it ourselves. I think that can be the hardest. Wishing you good things as you forge ahead. x

  4. My son has just moved flat and he has gone from carpets to all wooden floors. Which in a way is good because his vacuum cleaner was on it's last legs!
I have been using a diary this year to keep on top of my busy life, including keeping my son on track with all his appointments as well. It really does feel good to cross things off and realise how much I really do get done in a week.
