cate | today you are 38

Yes, another year closer to that big 4.0.

This isn't usually the place for a scolding, but, gee, I just want to shake you! Why, at 38 years old, can't you get your act together? Stop signing up for awesome scrapbooking classes that you'll never start; stop shopping for pretty paper and fabric for projects that just gather dust; stop buying magazines that burden you with their inspiration.

Instead, start gathering those ideas into one of the many notebooks you have laying around. When inspiration strikes, don't drop everything, but make a note and live with it. If it stays, go ahead and do it, if you lose it, then move on to the next idea. Get out on the bikes with the kids, go camping and enjoy the fresh air, read a book, switch off, enjoy.

You're on the right path, have confidence that you are making the right choices, even when it feels like you're not. Stick to your guns, even in the face of adversity - remember when dear old dad would quote "Desiderata" - go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

  2. Oh goodness I feel ancient. I have not only passed the big 4.0 but the bigger 5.0 too. I don't think my post today will be entitled 'Deb/Today you are 54 ;-) So please remember that 38 is still just a youngster in the great scheme of things and enjoy every minute! Hope you had a lovely birthday and thank you so much for my card - so thoughtful!

  6. Hi Cate ~ I wished you a happy birthday on Facebook, but wanted to add a little note here as well. I LOVE that photo of you!!! You look happy and content. And I admire your willingness to put into writing all the goals you have for yourself. From the outside looking in, I think you do a much better job than you give yourself credit for! xo

  7. Happy belated birthday, Cate. I first heard Desiderata from a dear friend - thanks for the reminder to revisit it. And it is just possible that I have a scrapbooking class or two that I left in mid-course - what's a scrapper gonna do?
